Construction Update | Clubhouse

Framing is taking on excellent shape at the Clubhouse.  We are now working on the rooftop trusses – easily the biggest and the most complicated process in constructing this building.  Take a look below at the intricate work happening on our roof.

Three trusses stand ready to be picked up by the crane and lifted to the roof.

Many of the interior walls are sheeted and securely nailed to provide shear walls that prevent the building from swaying sideways.

After the trusses are completed, we will sheet the roof and apply shingles.  The work on the shingles will begin within the month of November.

Poppy Fund | Tsawwassen Springs Golf

At Tsawwassen Springs, we encourage you to come out and play a round of golf or two to support a wonderful cause. For every green fee we receive on Monday November 10th and Tuesday, November 11th, we will contribute $10.00 towards the Poppy Fund.

Your poppy donations at work:

For years, you’ve generously donated and proudly wore your poppies to show you remember. Did you ever wonder where the money goes? Although the annual poppy campaign only lasts for a couple of weeks each fall, poppy funds are hard at work all year long.

Here are a few examples of your poppy donations at work

– Assisting any person (and their dependents) who is serving (or who has honourably served) in the Canadian Forces and are in need of assistance.
– Legion Veterans Transition Program (at UBC): a relief & recovery program for trauma-related stress from military service.
– Housing for homeless veterans, such as Cockrell House in Victoria.
– Disaster relief when declared by governments.
– George Derby Veterans Home
– Community medical equipment and research
– Meals-on-wheels

Tsawwassen Springs Golf

We had great weather right through the month of September lets hope October brings the same! It’s a known fact that Tsawwassen is drier and sunnier. As far as rainfall goes, Vancouver gets 1,438mm in a year on average and Tsawwassen 929m. What this means is that for every sunny day in Vancouver or Burnaby, Tsawwassen gets two or three!

But even when it does rain Tsawwassen Springs Golf has natural advantages that are enhanced by nine miles of drains, contoured fairways and acres of sand capping of up to 14” deep, part of a multi-million dollar investment in drainage alone. Rainwater disperses quickly, leaving fairways, roughs, tees and greens playable soon after even heavy rains.

The result is a great golf course with excellent playing conditions and the longest season anywhere in the Lower Mainland. Combining industry leading drainage with the best weather in the Lower Mainland nears you can book your golf game with confidence at Tsawwassen Springs.

Harry Langham | Sept 8, 1939 – Sept 2, 2014

In loving memory.
Harry and Marylin Langham relocated to Tsawwassen in 1961 and have remained in the Delta area ever since. Harry and Marylin welcomed 2 daughters, Lee Ann and Lisa, son Richard, son-in-law Jim as well as his 3 beloved grandchildren, Justine, Tanner and Desirae.  Harry ensured all of his children were active in sports ranging from soccer, track and field, baseball and hockey. He was a quiet and unassuming man who shied away from the limelight. He believed in honoring his commitments, bringing athletes to their highest potential and skills, and raising and spending time with his family and friends.

Harry is credited with starting several sports teams in the Tsawwassen area. He was active in various roles in baseball and hockey from 1964 – 2005. Harry spent most of his years in baseball as a coach, manager, general manager and also sat in most executive positions from president, vice president, director and purchasing agent.

In 1964, Harry helped organized baseball become a reality in Tsawwassen and Ladner managing the first All-Star Team in 1965.  The team, known as Bronco, won many zone, B.C. and western Canadian finals.  Harry’s dedication became very evident when he personally purchased and paid for the uniforms and twenty pairs of white baseball cleats for the Oakland ‘A’ team. One of Harry’s greatest baseball achievements was the start of the Dodgers in 1977 which ran until 2005. This program has become known across Canada because of the many championships won.  This provided players opportunities for university scholarships and the ability to play on local national teams.

Harry’s interest in sports was not confined to baseball.  He also followed his passion in the sports of hockey and golf.  Harry began Rae Hockey; it became so successful he had a waiting list to play. At the height of its popularity there were over 10 teams who won approximately 10 championships.

In 1984 Harry joined the Tsawwassen men’s golf club and quickly became president and chairman of the club until his retirement in 2004. Harry was a fixture at the Tsawwassen Golf & Country Club, and was often referred to as the God Father of Tsawwassen Golf & Country Club, now Tsawwassen Springs. He was well loved, and will be missed. Murray Poje remembers him as a great man who everyone enjoyed being around.

Adding to Harry’s list of accomplishments, he was the first inductee to the Delta Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

Harry’s first job was at the age of 17 with the Western Canadian Steel Mill where he remained until his next adventure, which was the opening of Tsawwassen Sports Unlimited in 1973. Harry sold the store in 1981 and moved on to a position with the Corporation of Delta where he remained until his retirement.

Harry also dedicated his time and commitment to volunteerism in the community, was a long serving member of the TOOB and Legion, receiving a lifetime membership to the TOOB in 2013.

Memories of Harry and all of his accomplishments will be long lived with many in the Delta community. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Delta Hospital, whose staff took compassionate care of Harry for the last 2 months of his life.

A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at the Ladner Community Center on October 11, 2014 from 2-6 pm. Please come armed with any special photos and stories you would like to share.

Construction Update | Clubhouse Progress

Our current Clubhouse construction is focused on building the suspended slab – which forms the roof of the Clubhouse’s underground parkade and the floor of the clubhouse.

At the end of July, we poured 600 meters of concrete, completing the first third of the slab.  With trucks arriving by 6am that morning, the concrete pour began at 6:30am.  We poured concrete until about 4pm and trowelled it smooth until 8pm.

Concrete columns have now been built on top of the basement floor; these will support the main floor slab above.

This image shows the formwork for the concrete floor near the washrooms.  The things sticking up are to create holes in the floor to allow the pipes to go through to the basement.

The forms are complete for our next pour, with mechanical and all electrical carefully laid out.  By the end of August, weather permitting; we will pour the middle third of the suspended slab.  The full length of this slab, once complete, will be approximately 360 feet x 160 feet.

Tsawwassen Springs Golf | Purchase Your Springs Card Today

Golf is ever present here, especially in the summer months. The community is built around a par-70 course that’s walkable, but designed with the grand feel of a big private course. The course has been celebrated by residents and visitors alike. Undulating greens, serpentine water features, mature trees, and the occasional heron all play against the backdrop of breathtaking views to the North Shore Mountains.

But summer is just the high season. An advanced $2 million drainage system means water disperses more quickly, leaving fairways playable during and after rain. This makes for the longest playable season in the region. It also protects the famous wetlands of the region, which has led to approval by the Audobon society.

As seen in our Construction Update full amenities are now under construction, including an extensive new community Clubhouse with a Restaurant & Pub, Banquet Facility, Fitness Centre, Wellness Centre, Pro Shop and Physiotherapy Clinic.

Don’t forget! Never pay more than $59 to golf at Tsawwassen Springs with your Springs Card! With the Springs Card, for a one-time fee of $99, you will never pay more than $59 for every round of golf. Plus, your Springs Card comes pre-loaded with $59, so you’re all set for your first round.
