CLIENT OF THE MONTH

TWCJuly3

BETTINA HARVEY

“As a professional landscaper for 25 years, I believe that practicing Pilates prevented me from seriously injuring my back. Core strength and stability are crucial elements when engaging in hard physical labor. Pilates gave the skills and body awareness to work efficiently and safely.

Now that I have left my landscaping job to ‘rewire’, my focus is on restoring my body to its former upright glory. To achieve this goal, TWC offers the perfect holistic combination of pilates, yoga, and core align classes taught by amazing and inspiring instructors. Pilates helps me lengthen and strengthen, core align energizes and keeps me in balance, and yoga helps me open up and be at peace. All in one great facility!

Having attended numerous fitness and pilates centres in Vancouver, I can sincerely say that what makes Tsawwassen Wellness Centre stand out is it’s huge ‘heart.’ More than just numbers, clients are made to feell welcome and cared for by the wonderful staff. Once, while struggling with a concussion, I was greatly uplifted by a get well card from TWC. These little things make such a difference on the road to recovery. Equally impressive is TWC’s connection and involvement with community. last year, a fantastic effort was made to raise money for the Canadian Mental Health Association.

I see TWC in my future for many years to come!”

Begin with our JUMPSTART PROGRAM and feel the difference in only 4 sessions.

ONLY $239 – includes 4 one on one sessions, assessment, introduction to all of the Pilates equipment, corealign and choice of Yoga or Matwork class. Call today 604.943.8823.

Nutrition Tips For Working Out

1. Adjust Your Eating Schedule
People are creatures of habit, and now’s the time to train your body on what time you eat. For starters, breakfast remains the best meal of the day for a commonly overlooked reason. Aside from the fact that it essentially “breaks your fast” after several hours of not eating, a high-protein breakfast will also increase your metabolism. You should also make it a habit to eat after your workouts to ensure maximum recovery and improvement

2. Hydrate
It’s been reported that 43 percent of adults drink less than four glasses of water per day. An alarming 25 percent say they don’t drink water at all. However, health authorities report that in order to perform optimally, adults need at least 64 ounces per day. Not only will this more easily allow your body to flush harmful toxins, but it also helps you make the most out of your next workout – your body will have plenty of fluids to rely on to replace what’s lost in sweat. Make it a habit to carry a water bottle with you on the go. Not only will you stay hydrated, but it can stave off junk food cravings too.

3. Don’t Skimp on Protein
We all need protein, but people who work out have an even bigger reason not to skimp. During a workout, muscles become damaged. It’s through the repair process that they become stronger and more toned.

4. Take The Right Supplements
As an athlete, you push the limits of your physical capabilities, and that’s what makes the many benefits of creatine and some other supplements so important. They provide a concentrated level of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that can be easily incorporated into your busy lifestyle.

5. Go Easy On The Drinking
After a long, stressful week, many of us enjoy going out and enjoying drinks with our best friends. While this can be a great way to unwind, it’s important to understand the hindrances this activity can have on your workout goals. There are a variety of physical setbacks drinking causes. For starters, alcohol contains empty calories, and these extra calories can really set you back. You should also consider the fact that alcohol negatively impacts protein synthesis.

6. Tell Sugar You Need Some Space
Let’s face it. Sometimes we like to indulge in a hot, gooey piece of cake or decadent ice cream. In fact, if you completely eliminate treats from your diet, it can put you at a higher chance of falling off the wagon completely. However, it’s crucial that you keep sugary foods and drinks to a minimum as there are so many harmful side effects that can significantly impact your performance.

DES Stealth Mode Lithium Storage Battery System

imageright2b
Tsawwassen Springs Golf course becomes the first golf course in North America to convert its entire electric fleet of utility vehicles and mowers to the DES Stealth Mode Lithium Storage Battery System

June 15, 2016

Dynamic Energy Solutions  Ltd. (DES) of Vancouver, BC is pleased to announce that Tsawwassen Springs Golf Course, a leader in environmental and noise reducing technologies has converted its entire electric fleet of utility vehicles and mowers over to the DES Stealth ModeTM lithium storage battery system.

The DES Stealth ModeTM lithium storage battery system provided to Tsawwassen Springs Golf course located in Tsawwassen, BC powers their Toro MDE utility vehicles, their Smithco Bunker Rakes, and their Jacobsen Eclipse 322 mowers.  The move to electric technology, in addition to environmental reasons was the result of the golf course being located in close proximity to a townhome and condominium complex, which requires that all greens maintenance activities have as low a noise signature as possible.

But as Tsawwassen Springs Golf Resort Superintendent Gord Olson explains going electric wasn’t enough to meet his needs.  “Brand new lead acid batteries can cut 18 greens but within a year that declines to 16 greens.  As a result we need to replace these batteries annually making lead acid expensive and wasteful.  Lithium is plug and play.  It doesn’t require the maintenance that lead acid batteries do.  At this time we are unable to power our fairway and rough mowers with lithium.  But we are looking forward to the day when we can have all of our equipment running on lithium.”

Olson expects to see a long-term cost advantage with the conversion of his electric fleet to lithium.  For example, the annual cost of replacing eight 6 volt lead acid batteries plus the weekly labour cost of servicing them totals approximately $8600 per utility vehicle over five years. The DES Stealth ModeTM lithium storage system costs significantly less than that and it comes with a five year warranty.  “The lead acid batteries with servicing were only lasting a year and the lithium battery is capable of up to 3000 charges (approximately 8 years) if charged and properly maintained. “ said Olson.

Olson’s preference for converting his electric fleet over from lead acid to lithium was based on lithium’s superiority when it comes to capability, maintenance, longevity, noise, and the obvious and important environmental advantages.

Dynamic Energy Solutions  CEO, George Roddan praised Olson and Tsawwassen Springs Golf Resort for being trailblazers when it comes to new technology and innovation.  “In addition to the long-term cost advantages over the next 5 to 8 years, they will also receive the benefit of a charging efficiency that is about 20 percent higher than lead acid charging that will result in less electricity usage.  Another benefit is the lower rolling resistance of each machine due to lithium batteries being lighter than lead acid batteries.  This can reduce electrical energy consumed by the battery on the same mission by as much as 30 percent.”
